About this Event

This workshop introduces participants to the mindful heritage craft of button making, with a focus on creating the traditional ring-and-thread button known as the Dorset Posy, designed to resemble a small bouquet of flowers.

Participants will be guided step by step through the process by Sandrine from The Frog in the Craft of forming the ring and stitching the decorative threads. On the day, they can choose to transform their finished piece into either a brooch or a bookmark.

The session includes full guidance, all materials and tools required, as well as written instructions to take home so participants can continue the craft in their own time.

Additional Information

The Frog in the Craft is a small business “one-woman band” created and run by, Sandrine, a French expat who’s lived in the UK for nearly 30 years.

She is a wife, a mum and step-mum, looking after a small menagerie, composed of Suzie, the mad Border Collie, a canary, a nearly “ancient” (by quail vs human age comparison standards) Chinese Painted Quail, six hens and two cockerels. Based in Nottinghamshire, Sandrine is a button maker, Textile handcrafted and recycler, and a general craft have-a-goer.

Her grandad is the source of her great interest for the handmade (or the “made with your hands” as she prefers to call it), the heritage crafts and the (sadly disappearing) old skilled jobs. She made her first wooden sewing box with him at about 10, and still uses it!

Her motto, or at least one of them, is “Live a little, Craft a lot”, especially as crafting or making things by hand has always been in her blood. Crafting also helped her with chronic pain management and it’s a great tool for mental health.
